I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for some place that I can get a good cup of tea around waikiki? I figured I would ask since so many people keep on mentioning coffee![]()

Hi Imogene!
This a good question. I am a tea drinker. I like green tea and I like mine piping hot. It has to be hot and I drink my "Ahf tah" noon tea quickly because I can not stand a lukewarm tea. So you see, I am very particular about my tea temperature (can you tell by me repeating it over and over?). I also take out my tea bag within 2 minutes or else the green tea becomes bitter and has this grass after taste which I dislike. This is probably the reason why I haven't yet visited any tea houses here. I really don't know any and can't really recommend one to you. So why didn't I say so in the first place? Because I guess I just got a little over zealous in finding out that someone else likes tea here![]()
I do know of a place in Ala Moana (which I haven't tried yet) called The Pacific Place Tea Garden Cafe. They say that tea lovers will want to attend the daily afternoon tea service and try the 40 custom teas. There is also a place called Lupicia. You must go there and look at all the exotic tea selections they have. When you go in there, you'll feast your eyes on all the premium and custom-blended teas decorating the whole store. Hmm, I wonder if I can get some pictures of the storeAnyways, you can purchase some wonderful teas here and take it home with you.
Pinky (off to go make some tea now)
It sounds like we would totally get along - I am forever looking for a place that brews teas correctly - hot but not so hot that they scorch the leavesThanks for the suggestions the tea service sounds really wonderful.
If you can think of any more please post them![]()

I went to the Lupicia this weekend and got a lot of eye candy. They were very kind and gave me a good education on teas. They have stores on the mainland and you can also order on line.

I feel more classy now and I am going to drink my tea with my pinky up this afternoon![]()

my English grandmother would be so proud of you LOL Thanks for the pictures I am looking forward to checking them out. The problem with US based companies it they charge a fortune for shipping to Canada. I have a friend that loves Might Leaf Macadamia Nut Tea - it cost $10 a box - shipping is $18 - it gets frustrating. Hopefully I can find some for her while I am in Hawaii

i was prowling through hawaii.com one day and found mention of a hotel on Waikik that does afternoon tea with scones and all right on the beach
Does anyone know which hotel it is? of course now I can't find it again and we'd love to do that for a quite time one day on our trip next January

Dear Melissa,
Aloha, welcome to our forum... I'm so glad you have joined and that you have hopped right in there and began posting! Please keep it up!
I believe the place you are referring to is the "First Lady of Waikiki"... the Moana Surfrider.
They have afternoon tea there, serving sandwiches, finger foods, etc on their Banyan Veranda (its a 150 ft. banyan tree, its kind of their "signature thing"). I've taken a photo from their website and posted it here... showing their "afternoon tea" being served. Here is the link for their afternoon tea.
Hope this helps!
Aloha,
David

You are correct - I have had afternoon tea at the Ala Moana - but since it is under new management I don't know if they still carry on that tradition.
And if you have never had afternoon tea this was the perfect place to start - thankfully my mother had taught me how to hold a tea cup when I was a child!
Lily
Oh thank you so much - both of you!
I'll do some research and see if the Ala Moana is keeping up this tradition, it looks like a wonderful place for my friend and I to get some quite time while the guys go fishing one afternoon on our trip!

Make sure that you look into the Moana Surfrider... that is a different place than Ala Moana (they may both have it, I'm not sure... but Moana Surfrider definitely does. Follow that link that I posted and it will take you straight to it.
Aloha,

I stand corrected- I really did mean the Moana Surfrider - my brain steps out for a split second every once and again and what I want to say is not projected into my fingertips operating the keyboard!
Lily
Lol, that's funny Lily... I wasn't sure if Ala Moana did or not. And Ala Moana and Moana Surfrider are kind of close in name... so I thought you may have meant that, but wasn't sure. Thanks for straightening that up... so now we all know which hotel does the afternoon tea.
I reallly appreciate your input in all of that. Keep it coming!

oops - but mix up solved
also while searching for the correct hotel with tea, I fould this lovely list of ALL the tearooms in Honolulu! Maybe we should try a few!

Upon reading all the reviews carefully, I think we'll take tea at the Halekulani. It got the best reviews and I've always wanted to see that hotel anyway (grin)

Thanks for posting that Melissa (good to know your name as well).
When I get a little time I'll have to check that site out myself. Glad you put that up.

Lupicia is the best tea house in Hawaii. It is much famous because of the diverse variety and the best quality selection of its tea leaves. The tea at Lupicia is just so superb that you keep on sipping it for hours.
Maybe if I had ever had tea prepared the way you all have..I might like it!
The only way I drink tea now is if I'm sick and there is brandy in it!
